Brothers

Part of our new skin care regiment to help treat the skin burns Jonah is facing, involves a special astringent soak 3 times a day for 10-15 min each time.  To help pass the time, Noah was reading him a book about vehicles and they were enjoying just being boys.

Today is Mother's Day.  Perhaps this year Mother's Day should have been more complicated for me given everything feels complicated, but it was a pretty straightforward day.  Maybe it's because I know a number of moms for whom this is their first Mother's Day after their child has passed.  Or perhaps it's because I know a few moms who are standing on the brink, hoping against all hope for a different outcome.  This year I feel grateful that my family was all together and Mother's Day was celebrated by all 4 kids competing to talk at the same time or sneak an extra snuggle into the day.  Today was good.

Ok, today was good until we realized a pipe to an outdoor faucet had burst and water started pouring out of the basement wall.  The carpet is up, the dry wall is gone and the carpet pad is in the trash. If this story feels vaguely familiar, it is as the water tank just sprung a leak about 2 weeks ago.  I'm pretty anti-water indoors these days!

Brain and CNS (Central Nervous System) tumors are the most common cancer in children 0-14 in the US and the incidence of brain and CNS tumors overall in children ages 0-14 has increased between 2000 to 2010.  The incidence rate of childhood primary malignant and non-malignant brain and CNS tumors in the US is now 5.3 cases per 100,000 for a total count of 16,044 incident tumors.  The rate is higher in boys (5.4 per 100,000) than girls (5.1 per 100,000)
